「不規則複數」一連三個雙人展,從探問「誰」是我們,再尋「何方」為家,至此探索「何」謂家。展覽的焦點亦從自然物種及城市面貌,過渡至以人為本體探討「共居」(cohabitation)的可能。人,自生於世上,就無可避免地處身於某種血緣、群體、階級的牽絆與架構之中。與他者共存,成了我們終身修習的一課。此系列終曲名為「群居」(Commune),寄寓了策展團隊的省思與願景:究竟要達成哪些物質或情感條件,人才會對某個群體產生認同感,甚至稱一個地方為「家」?而處於一個價值和節奏迥異的群體中,我們又如何求同存異,甚至捍衛共同的價值?

盧韻淇近年的錄像習作如 News from Home、Home is Weather 及裝置劇場《重新登入》,則反覆探索人與人之間既近且遠的關係。新作《內在奏鳴曲》 (2023)以香港此座浮城的歷代離散潮作背景,由自身家庭經驗出發,梳理出三道內在的聲音;而展覽中雜亂無章的家居陳設宛如一顆快將爆裂的心臟,倒映出一個騷動的「家」。自身的各種性格、經驗、想法及創傷,以「內在家庭系統」 模式展開多重人格的自我對話,交錯的獨白和對話,宛如不同的家庭成員相互直視和溝通的過程。在離與留的抉擇間,永恆角力。

‘Irregular Plurals’ unfolds a trilogy of dual exhibitions that begins with an inquiry into “Who” we are, followed by a search for “Where” we find our sense of home, and culminates in an exploration of “What” defines the concept of home itself. Redirecting focus from natural species and cityscape to humans, the exhibition delves into the possibilities of “cohabitation” from a human-centric perspective. As individuals, all of us are born into some kinship, community and class. Embracing coexistence with the Other has thus become an enduring discipline, a lifelong endeavour that we strive to embrace. The final opus of this series bears the title “Commune”, encapsulating the curatorial team’s introspection and aspirations: what material and emotional conditions cultivate a true sense of belonging, and ultimately, the making of “home”? In a community characterised by diverse values and rhythms, how might we seek common ground while embracing differences and even defending shared values?

In Lo Wan Ki’s recent video works such as News from HomeHome is Weather, and the interactive installation theatre work Retry Login, there is a recurring theme of exploring the complex dynamics between people, where closeness and distance intertwine and oscillate. Her new work, Internal Sonata (2023), unfurls against the backdrop of Hong Kong, a city constantly caught in the ebb and flow of diaspora. Drawing from the artist’s own family experience, it weaves together a symphony of three intrinsic voices, while the chaotic arrangement of the domestic setting resembles an imminent heart on the verge of bursting, reflecting a tumultuous “home” in turmoil. An eternal struggle ensues, as various facets of one’s own personality, experiences, thoughts, and traumas engage in overlapping monologues and dialogues, resembling the psychotherapeutic process of the “Internal Family Systems”. In all familial and communal dynamics, there is reliance at times, while at others resistance, fluctuating between the decision to depart or stay, all in a never-ceasing wrestling match.

Does it matter for you to chat with a "real" person? 

Would you share a more authentic story to the digital being?

Artificial Intelligence or Chat-bot, if not already, might soon be our daily companion and friends; 

Furthermore, one day we might become one of them in the future, when one might decide to take our digital footprint for modelling a virtual chat model. 

Through the interactive installation, the audience would be masked with avatar and voices,  and take turns being a chat room player or role play as a chat-bot. How would you feel "human" differently?

邀請你進入「重新登入」呢個聊天室,帶上耳機,響虛擬既世界,按照劇本與其他觀眾(又或是機器)進行對話,一同探索在科技時代中,人在身份、自我意識、選擇和人與人和自己的聯繫上的思考。隔著屏幕,你會唔會更願意分享自己?會唔會有一天,你會以一個虛擬既身分留在世界?

走進一場互動交友遊戲,重新思考真實與虛擬的自己。

Underage crisis pregnancy is often portrayed by the newspapers as the mothers’ own fault and thus the ensuing pain and hardship is what they deserve. But what is the story behind the fact? What leads to the news? How has she made her choices? After such accidents, does she have any new thoughts about life?

意外的生命驟來 依然可親可愛?

未成年的意外懷孕,在新聞上是一宗宗不成熟和惱網的意外和醜聞,恍惚少女是疚由自取的,隨後的一切苦楚偕是理所當然。然而在鏡頭定格的此刻之外,女孩的過去是帶著什麼樣的故事?她身邊的人是如何看待她的處境?她又是如何做出她的決擇?對於生命,因著在年少時的這些「意外」,女孩們又是如何有新的領會?

“一步” 是身體接近最微小而日常的一個行動。 重覆的步履成就了怎樣的路? 為何我們日復日依然繼續_____?
就著這種對”一步”的惑,我們在排練室醖釀、在山野經歷,試圖找住心中的念,感應於(時間和)世界中泛起的漣漪。
透過音樂、身體和影像,編譜出一個全新作品,在劇場內與你打開一種新的體驗式對話。

"Steps" are perhaps the most trivial and routine action we do every day. What have those repetitive steps paved? What makes us keep going? Pondering "Steps" in our minds, we started to exchange thoughts and experiences inside the studio and out in the wild, and we tried to create our discourse of “Steps” through a journey of self-discovery. Our “Steps” in time and in the world are shared through music, body, and moving imagery. You are cordially invited to join the dialogue with us in this new experience of theatre.

面對著時代這巨大的帷幕,我們成為被書寫的一群; 從場景退下,回到日常的微小個體,我們又是什麼樣的姿態前行? 當"學習”並非看成是受限於課室裡的義務和責任,好奇與想像是我們每人都曾經歷的事情,當"時代"成為我們的教室,我們的"學習"又成了怎樣的可能?
「學習時代」試圖以人聲取代話語,比擬群眾,個人內在的聲音如何跟外在世界的旋律找到共鳴?

“If history isnt just a straight line, it. 's also true that we straddle many different timelines. We can think of the present as being defined by a tension between alternate futures.” - the Free Association

We watch ourselves being represented by the times. Having withdrawn from the scene and resumed our role as an insignificant individual, how should we carry forward?
As the notion that learning inside the classroom is our responsibility failed to bound us, we had all let our imagination run wild. But when ‘the times’ have become our classroom, what would ‘learning’ be?
The school of the times attempts to substitute conversations with human voice in a bid to intimate the public. How could our inner voice echo with the chorus of the outer world?
